First night in Sitges, Spain

Friday, the first day of the quilting tour to Spain.
We all met in Gatwick to fly out to Barcelona. Such a fun reunion as most knew each other from previous Arena holidays.
The flight was on time and then a quick coach journey to the coast where we are based in a lovely 4 star hotel overlooking the Mediterranean.

We had a couple of hours before the welcome dinner which gave me the chance to explore the hotel. I found that many reception rooms were being used as a trade market with distributors selling wholesale to Spanish quilt shops. Rowan were represented in one large room and I loved their elephant display which featured fabrics by Valori Wells. Valori and her mother Jean organise the Sisters quilt show in Oregon.

I was looking for fabric that had a Spanish feel and was shown some designs with flamenco dressed dolls. Some had been appliqu├ęs to t-shirts.

The welcome dinner was in the hotel restaurant overlooking the sea. There are 22 of us, an easy number for us all to mix. The dinner was good with plenty of nice red Spanish wine.

We are all looking forward to exploring the quilt show tomorrow!
